Bicycle theft: what to do?

Don't be discouraged! If it's been marked with BicyCode, you'll have an even better chance of finding your bike. Follow the steps below to optimize your chances of having your bike returned.

Steps to take if your bike is stolen

The BicyCode tagging system makes it much easier to find your bike and prevent illegal resale. However, to maximize your chances, there are a few essential steps you need to take quickly.

Get your bike branded

File a complaint with the police

  • Go to the police station or the gendarmerie (if you are outside the urban area).
  • Provide the BicyCode if it has been identified by marking.
  • Without a complaint, the police can't start an investigation, and the BicyCode service becomes ineffective.

Astuce : Gagnez du temps avec la pré-plainte en ligne Consultez le site du ministère de l’Intérieur pour vérifier si vous pouvez déposer une pré-plainte en ligne. Vous pourrez finaliser la procédure en vous rendant sur place.

Report your bike stolen on BicyCode

If your bike is marked, log in to your BicyCode account and :

  1. Make sure your bike is registered in the database.
  2. Change your bike's status to "stolen".

Why is this essential?

  • Bicycles not reported stolen in BicyCode cannot be identified by law enforcement agencies or potential buyers, thus facilitating fraudulent resales.
  • Without a declaration, it is impossible to inform you if your bike is found.

Can't connect?

Make sure you're registered! Your bike must have been added by you via your BicyCode account. If this is not the case, please register your bike. You'll find the steps to follow under "Am I registered?

Important : conformément aux recommandations de la CNIL et de la Police Nationale, aucun tiers n’a accès à vos coordonnées personnelles. Cette restriction a pour but d’empêcher la récupération de votre adresse à des fins de racket ou de spam. Stealing a bike: what to do?

1- File a complaint

You must report the theft of your bike to the police. To save time, you can fill in a pre-report form online, which will make it easier for you to report the theft to the police station.

If your bike is found and registered as lost or stolen, the police can contact you to return it.

2- Report your bike stolen in your "bike garage" area

Log in to your bike garage, go to your bike's page.

In the Bike statusclick on Déclarer le vol ou la perte.

All you have to do is confirm your declaration.

The status of your bike will then be updated in the FNUCI. In the event of a search on apic-asso.com, it will appear as stolen or lost.

If the bike is checked by the police, they will be able to take action.
