Why is the UNCIF important for bicycle owners?
The Fichier National Unique des Cycles Identifiés (FNUCI) is a national database created in 2021 to reference all identified bicycles. This file contains essential information, such as make, model, color, type of bike (electric or mechanical), as well as the owner's contact details.
Thanks to its unique marking code, the FNUCI makes it possible to trace a bike's life cycle: sale, resale, theft, return or destruction. Its aim is to secure exchanges, protect owners and facilitate the return of stolen bikes. The FNUCI is strictly compliant with the RGPD and is managed by APIC, under delegation from the French government.
Can I modify the information on a registered bike?
Yes, it is possible to modify a pre-registeredbike. You are free to adjust the description as long as the bike has not been officially registered in FNUCI.
However, once the bike has been registered in the FNUCI, it becomes part of the national database and modifications can no longer be made directly by the user. In this case, you must contact BicyCode support to request an update or correction.
Pre-registration is a practical solution for preparing a bike description before assigning an owner.
