Are BicyCode services free to use?
Yes, access to BicyCode's services and functions, such as fleet management and registration of bicycles in the national database via partner cash register software, is entirely free of charge. All you have to do is create your BicyCode.
What are the current regulations on bicycle identification?
Since 1ᵉʳ January 2021, the identification of new cycles sold by retailers has been mandatory, and this obligation has been extended to used bikes since 1ᵉʳ July 2021. This regulation is governed by Decree no. 2020-1439 of November 23, 2020 and theOrder of December 29, 2020.
All types of sellers are concerned: bike shops, food and specialist supermarkets, second-hand dealers, etc. The aim is to guarantee the traceability of bicycles, particularly in the event of theft. The national file is managed byAPIC, designated by the French government as the official administrator.
