What is BicyCode marking?

BicyCode marking is an identification system for bicycles, designed to combat theft and facilitate the return of recovered stolen bikes. It consists of a unique number, tagged or engraved on the bike's frame, which is registered in a national database (FNUCI) accessible to law enforcement agencies.

About branding
BicyCode

  • Each bike is identified with a specific and unique code
  • This code is registered by the seller in the FNUCI (Fichier National Unique des Cycles Identifiés).
  • After purchasing a bike, the owner creates a BicyCode account to access his or her bike's information: he or she can update his or her information, change the status of his or her bike, and so on.
  • In the event of theft, if a bike is recovered, the police can consult the database to identify the owner and return the bike.

BicyCode marking makes it more difficult to resell stolen bikes, as buyers can easily check whether a bike is stolen by consulting the database.

The identification system also encourages greater responsibility on the part of bike owners.

A bike,
one code

Mandatory since January 1, 2021, all bicycles sold by retailers must be identified by a specific, unique code and registered in the
FNUCI (Fichier National Unique des Cycles Identifiés).

BicyCode marking means that if your bike is stolen, you can be contacted if it is recovered. A bike that has already been identified cannot be marked a second time with a different code, thus limiting the risk of theft.

BicyCode marking,
lasting, reliable traceability

Once your bike has been identified and registered by a service provider, you need to create your BicyCode account and add your bike to it.

Why have your bike branded?

In France, over 400,000 bicycles are stolen every year, representing 1/6th of all sales. Every year, more than 150,000 bicycles cannot be returned due to lack of identification. Thanks to BicyCode marking,
7 to 10% of marked bikes are returned to their owners following theft, whereas only 2 to 3%* are returned in the absence of marking.

Why is the BicyCode system recognized as reliable and effective?

BicyCode marking assigns each bike a unique identification code, associated with its owner and registered in the national Fichier National Unique des Cycles Identifiés (FNUCI) database. This system, officially validated and supported by public authorities and cycling industry organizations in France, guarantees reliable identification and enhanced safety for users.

How does BicyCode marking help reduce theft and facilitate the return of bicycles?

BicyCode marking plays a key role in theft prevention, as it makes the bike uniquely identifiable and traceable. In the event of theft, the engraved code registered in a national database enables law enforcement agencies to easily identify the owner and speed up the return of the recovered bike.
