Baromètre Vélo 2025: working together for more bicycle-friendly cities.

By BicyCode - 08/04/2025

Bicycles have become an increasingly important part of our lives and of mobility policies in France. But to go further, we need to listen to those who pedal every day. That's the aim of the Baromètre des Villes Cyclables, a major survey launched by FUB (Fédération française des Usagers de la Bicyclette), in which every cyclist can take part.

The 2025 edition is open until June 2. By responding, you can help make your city safer, more pleasant and better suited to cycling. BicyCode fully supports this simple but highly effective civic tool.

What is the Bicycle Barometer?

The Baromètre des Villes Cyclables is a national survey that allows cyclists to express their views on cycling conditions in their city. It was launched in 2017 by FUB and is enjoying growing success: in 2021, over 275,000 responses have been collected, covering more than 1,600 municipalities.

Every two years, this tool provides an accurate snapshot of the "cyclability" of the French territory, based on what users really feel.

The results are summarized in the form of scores, rankings and interactive maps, as well as concrete recommendations for local authorities.

Why become a player in sustainable mobility and make your voice heard?

A real impact on public policy

The results of the Barometer are consulted by elected representatives, local technicians, urban planners and associations. They are used to guide investment in cycling infrastructure and evaluate local policies. The Barometer is a tool for transformation.

A voice for every cyclist

By answering the questionnaire, you can point out the black spots on your daily route, highlight successful developments and express your expectations. This feedback is invaluable in developing your city.

A national comparison

It also makes it possible to compare cities with each other, to identify the good performers, and to inspire lagging areas. It's a lever for progress for the entire cycling community.

Online participation: citizens, whether regular or occasional cyclists, are invited to complete an online questionnaire available on the official Bicycle Barometer website. Take part in the 2025 online survey.

Evaluation criteria: the questionnaire covers several topics, including :

  • The general feeling about cycling in the commune.
  • The feeling of safety when cycling.
  • Comfortable cycling infrastructure.
  • The municipality's efforts to promote cycling.
  • Availability of parking and services for cyclists.

Scoring and ranking: participants assign scores on a scale of 1 (very unfavorable) to 6 (very favorable) for each criterion. An overall score is then calculated for each city, enabling them to be ranked from A+ (excellent cycling climate) to G (very unfavorable cycling climate). Discover the 2021 analysis report.

Analysis of results: The data collected is analyzed by FUB to draw up a report on the state of cyclability in French towns and cities. The results are then published and made available to local authorities to help them guide their cycling policies.

By taking part in this survey, every citizen becomes a player in the development of cycling mobility in his or her community, directly influencing local decisions on cycling facilities and policies.
